ZP5ZR - GARY
Victor Gabriel González F.
5-Nov-1957 / 8-Sep-2004

Gary used to run an Icom IC-575H and other top rigs (all ICOM) with a Cushcraft A50-6S
plus a homebrewed 7 elements yagi on 6m, from GG14fr.

He was a true pioneer on 50 Mhz in the country, after he "discovered" the magic band through another pioneer, Doug ZP6CW, former ZP6XCW.

When most of ZP dxers were still working HF bands as our main activity, he taught us about the crazy behavior and delights of the magic band, and invited us to join his work on 6 meters, giving us tips on how to start and actual help. He worked many "first-time-on-six countries", and helped to make ZP a regularly heard prefix on the band since 1992.

His romance with VHF took him to be one of the very few ZP stations on amateur satellite bands, and for many years ZP5ZR was the only Phone station on SAT, giving Paraguay "for a new one" to many hams worldwide.

He was a member of ARRL, AMSAT and past president of Radio Club Paraguayo, where he always played a leading role and made his best effort towards improvement of amateur radio related activities in the country.

His dxing activities made him a well known operator among the DX comunnity, and awarded him with 5BDXCC, 6 meters DXCC and his last goal,  #1 DXCC - Top of Honor Roll with P5 and VR6 operations.

A massive heart attack put and end to his rich life.

Will miss you for sure my dearest cousin. Rest in peace!
